Fourth farmer dies at a mandi in MP

-

BHOPAL: One more farmer has died at a mandi in Madhya Pradesh, the fourth in the past two weeks.

Sohan Lal, 48, a resident of Sindriya village, had a heart attack, Seoni district collector Gopal Chandra Dand said, quoting the doctors at a hospital where he was admitted by his son Sanjay.

Lal had travelled to Simaria Krishi Upaj Mandi on Friday to sell his produce of gram, loaded in 70 gunny bags, but was reportedly told by the staff there that the sale was not on due to some glitch in the tehsil’s website.

The collector said the farmer did not receive an SMS regarding the sale not taking place, and an inquiry has been ordered into it.

Before Lal, three farmers in Madhya Pradesh have died waiting at mandis — either to get their produce weighed or sold.

The deaths have been reported from Lateri mandi in Vidisha district, Narsinghgarh mandi in Rajgarh district and Akodia mandi in Shajapur district.
