Mercury dropped to 36.6°C on Wednesday, relief to continue

NEWDELHI: Wednesday saw a fivedegree drop in the day temperatur­e, with the mercury recording 36.6 degrees Celsius, from 41.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. This was also the coolest day in the capital since May 8 this year, according to India Meteorolog­ical Department.

Delhi has been sweating it out with above 40 degrees Celsius temperatur­es since mid-may. The day temperatur­e dropped to 38.3 degrees on June 2. That was the first time in 17 days that the maximum temperatur­e dropped below 40 degrees.

However, by Tuesday, the maximum temperatur­e again climbed up to 41.6 degrees.

Now, with the onset of moisture bearing easterly winds, coupled with cloudy skies, Delhi residents got some much needed respite from the heat on Wednesday. The temperatur­e, at 36.6 degrees Celsius, is four degrees below normal.

had dropped to 28.5 degrees Celsius in the morning. The maximum temperatur­e is expected to be around 38 degrees Celsius on Thursday, before it hits 40 again on Friday. However, over the weekend and till June 12, the maximum temperatur­e will be around 38 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will oscillate between 26 and 28 °Celsius.
