Join evaluation process, DU appeals to teachers
NEW DELHI: Delhi University’s dean of examination has appealed to teachers, who have been boycotting checking of answer scripts for a month, to join the evaluation process.
Teachers, led by DU teachers’ association (DUTA), have been boycotting the evaluation process to protest against the University Grants Commission (UGC) scheme for granting autonomy to colleges.
Registrar Tarun Das said the boycott would cause inordinate delay in declaration of results and could hamper careers of students. He said, “As per the service agreements and the executive council resolutions of 2003 and 2014, it is mandatory for teachers to participate in the evaluation process.”
Vinay Gupta, dean of examinations, said he has sent every college a list of teachers who are not participating in the evaluation process. “We have appealed to the teachers to join evaluation process,” he said.
The boycott is also to protest against a UGC notification on formula to calculate reservation in teaching jobs that teachers fear would impact the representation of SC/ST candidates in colleges. The DUTA said it is demanding that letter be withdrawn and the over 2000 posts advertised in DU last year under the High Court judgment be filled with no further delay.
DUTA president Rajib Ray said, “We will continue with the boycott till at least June 12.”
