DU gets 2.8 lakh forms, registration ends
NEWDELHI: Delhi University has received nearly 2.8 lakh completed applications for the undergraduate courses, the first cutoff for which will be announced June 19.
The registration process started on May 15 and closed at Thursday midnight. This year, students were allowed to register for both merit-based and entrancebased courses on the same platform.
Last year, the university had received 2.2 lakh applications for admission to merit-based courses.
The maximum number of applications this year had been received from Delhi, followed by Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar and Rajasthan, officials said.
Admissions under the first cutoff list will take place from June 19-21. This year, university is likely to announce only five cutoffs and conduct a centralised counselling for the remaining seats.
English (Hons) emerged as the most popular course followed by Political Science (Hons), BA Programme and Economics (Hons) based on the number of applications received by the university for these courses.
“Last year also, the same subjects were the most popular but BA Programme was on top followed by English (Hons). That is because these are courses for which all students are eligible so in most cases students do apply for these courses,” a DU official said.
DU cutoffs are likely to increase by 0.25 to one percentage points across streams with more students scoring 95% and above marks in the CBSE Class 12 results.
The CBSE results have a direct impact on the DU cutoffs. At least 80% of the applications received by the university is from CBSE students.
