NEW DELHI: The Delhi government on Monday set up a central control room to resolve complaints related to water logging and flooding on roads on priority during monsoons.
The control room will function round the clock under the district magistrate, east, till October 15.
“The control room will receive complaints related to water logging and drain congestion and will convey them to the department concerned for immediate redressal,” the Delhi government said in a statement.
People can call 22051234 (disaster management cell), 22428773 and 22428774 (22428773 and 22428774).
The representatives of departments and agencies such as irrigation and flood control, Delhi Development Authority, public works department, New Delhi Municipal Council, the three MCDS, Delhi Jal Board and others will remain present in the control room.
As a nodal officer, the DM will interact with civil and army officers from time to time to take stock of the situation.
The decision to set up the special control room was taken at a meeting convened by deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia. Various flood control measures taken by all departments concerned were discussed in detail.
Looking at the multiplicity of agencies, Sisodia asked all stakeholders to ensure cleaning of drains at the earliest. He stressed the need for a special purpose vehicle (SPV) for the cleaning of drains.
“There is multiplicity of agencies in Delhi as far as cleaning of drains is concerned. We must try for a special purpose vehicle for better coordination and cleaning,” he said. Sisodia also released the flood control order 2018 containing telephone numbers, names of the officers concerned, danger level of water, details of flood control room, its 24x7 number and vulnerable points of the flood.
He directed the PWD and irrigation and flood control department to work in coordination to deal with floor mitigation measures at certain locations identified as vulnerable during heavy rain.
