NEW DELHI: The special cell of Delhi Police on Sunday arrested a wanted drug peddler, who was carrying a reward of ₹1 lakh on his arrest. The man used to procure drugs from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh and distributed in parts of Delhi-ncr.

Police have identified the drug peddler as 38-year-old Farid Khan, a resident of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, who had been evading arrest for more than five months.

Deputy commissioner of police (special cell), Sanjeev Yadav said that in January this year the police had arrested three drug traffickers — Savej, Ashique Ali and Anwar, and recovered four kilograms of heroin from them.

“Probe revealed that the arrested accused persons had procured heroin from Jharkhand with the help of drug suppliers in Bareilly, who were identified as Riyaz Khan alias Babu Khan and Farid Khan. While Riyaz Khan was arrested in March this year, Farid managed to give police a slip and was on the run,” Yadav said.

On Sunday, information was received that the suspect would come to his residence in Bareilly and he was arrested following a search.

“Farid told police that he used to receive heroin from local drug dealers and he then supplied the same to his men in Delhi, parts of western UP and Haryana,” the DCP said.

In another case, the special cell arrested a member of an arms dealer gang who has allegedly supplied more than 300 illegal arms to various gangs in Delhi NCR, police said.

The arms dealer had been evading arrest for the past few months after his associates were arrested in Delhi. He was also carrying a reward of ₹1 lakh on his arrest.

Deputy commissioner of police (special cell), Pramod Kushwah said the accused, 47-year-old Shamshad, a resident of Muzaffarnagar in UP, was arrested last Thursday, following a brief exchange of fire near Salim Garh bypass.

Later, on Saturday, a search was conducted at his house in Muzaffarnagar and one semi-automatic pistol was recovered, the DCP said.
