Bhowmick gets three years in bribery case
KOLKATA: A special CBI court on Monday sentenced former India player and East Bengal football team’s technical director Subhash Bhowmick to three-year imprisonment in a 2005 bribery case, when he worked in the central excise department.
The Kolkata court also slapped a fine of ~2 lakh on the 1970 Asian Games bronze medallist. Bhowmick, however, was granted bail on medical grounds.
In December 2005, CBI’S anticorruption cell had caught Bhowmick red-handed taking a bribe of ~1.5 lakh from a businessman after promising him a refund on his excise duty being the then superintendent of the excise department. He was charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
