INVESTIGATORS SAID

THE ACCUSED HAD FIRED A BULLET TO THREATEN A WOMAN INSIDE THE BOUTIQUE, WHERE THE VICTIM WAS EMPLOYED.

NEWDELHI: Delhi Police on Friday arrested two people, including a woman, for allegedly shooting dead a 23-year-old woman from West Bengal in Dilshad Garden.

The woman had been rushed to east Delhi’s Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) hospital with a gunshot injury in her abdomen on Wednesday, where she later succumbed.

Police identified the arrested woman as one Usha, who owns a boutique in Dilshad Garden, where the crime took place on Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators said the other accused, 31-year-old businessman, Sunny alias Manav, had fired a bullet to threaten someone inside the boutique which hit the victim.

Sunny and his friend Pawan had gone to the boutique around 3pm to settle a dispute that Pawan was having with one Renu, who worked there. The deceased, Nishthi, was also an employee of the boutique, said police.

“An argument broke out between Pawan and Renu following which Sunny whipped out a pistol to threaten Renu. Nishthi tried to intervene. During the scuffle, Sunny fired a bullet that hit Nishthi in her abdomen,” said a police officer.

The officer said the two men and the owner of the boutique first rushed Nishthi to a nearby hospital in Sunny’s car.

The doctors told them that her condition was critical and referred her to GTB Hospital. The three then took Nishthi to the emergency ward of GTB hospital.

“They then put the injured woman on a stretcher and fled. When doctors found the unconscious woman bleeding from her abdomen, they admitted her to the emergency ward. However, the woman died during treatment. The hospital authorities informed the police later,” the officer said.

Police said a search of the woman’s clothes revealed a prescription issued by a private hospital nearby, indicating that she had been taken there first. The prescription had a false name.

The investigating team scanned CCTV footage of the private hospital. Three persons, including a woman, were seen carrying the injured woman to the hospital.

“We identified the woman as Usha. She was taken into custody. During questioning, she revealed the entire sequence of events,” said the officer.

Deputy commissioner of police ( Shahdara) Meghna Yadav said Sunny was arrested on Friday and the pistol used in the crime has been recovered. Usha was booked under the charges of criminal conspiracy. “Efforts are underway to trace and find Pawan,” added Yadav.
