The building collapse prompted the Noida authority to seal other unsafe buildings in the same village. It also demolished nine unsafe structures next to the collapsed building. The district administrations of Delhi have already deployed boats ,and quick response teams have been formed to alert people living in low -lying areas of the Yamuna flood plains about the rising water level. Boats have been deployed and announcements were being made through mikes.
In Ghaziabad, the 116 families of Vartalok and Pragya Kunj housing societies affected by a road cave-in on Thursday will have to spend another night outside their homes as dozens of workers continued repair work in the Vasundhara neighbourhood on Friday. According to an initial assessment by the Central Road Research Institute, engineers have suggested plugging the gap left by the cave-in with sandbags. Officials estimate that the repair work will be completed by Saturday. “In case repair work gets prolonged, we will try to make arrangements for residents,” said Ritu Maheshwari, district magistrate of Ghaziabad.
Meanwhile, a major portion of earth was eroded from one of the 226 pillars of the 10.3-km long Hindon elevated road near GT Road on late Thursday night. Officials of the Ghaziabad Development Authority plugged the area and said the road is structurally safe as each of the pillars has a foundation up to a depth of 30 metre below the ground.
The heavy rains resulted in water-logging in several parts of Delhi. Delhi Traffic Police advised commuters to avoid some stretches such as Mehrauli Bypass, RTR Marg, Okhla Mandi and Sarita Vihar, among others, where heavy traffic snarls were reported because of water-logging. In UP, six deaths were reported from Agra, four from Mainpuri and three deaths each in Muzaffarnagar and Kasganj. Also, two deaths each were reported from Meerut and Bareilly while one death each was reported from 13 other districts. The MET office said thundershowers were likely to continue at many places across the state.
