SRINAGAR : A CRPF jawan was killed af­ter sus­pected mil­i­tants opened fire at him in his home in south Kash­mir’s Pul­wama district on Sun­day, po­lice said.

The mil­i­tants barged into the house of a lo­cal CRPF man, Naseer Ah­mad Rather, at Naira vil­lage in the evening and shot at him in­jur­ing him crit­i­cally, they said. “Naseer was rushed to district hos­pi­tal Pul­wama where he suc­cumbed to in­juries. Po­lice have regis­tered a case and in­ves­ti­ga­tion has been ini­ti­ated,” a po­lice state­ment said.

Naseer was posted with a CRPF bat­tal­ion in the district and was at home on leave. The in­ci­dent comes a day af­ter a Jammu and Kash­mir po­lice­man, who was ab­ducted by sus­pected mil­i­tants in Tral area of Pul­wama on Fri­day, was al­lowed to re­turn fol­low­ing an ap­peal from his mother. Spe­cial po­lice of­fi­cer (SPO) Mu­dasir Ah­mad Lone was ab­ducted by un­known gun­men from his vil­lage of Chankatar. He was work­ing as a cook at Re­shipora po­lice post in Awan­tipore.

On Tues­day, sus­pected mil­i­tants opened fire at se­cu­rity per­son­nel at Bata­maloo near Fire & Emer­gency Ser­vices killing a CRPF con­sta­ble and wound­ing an­other.
