25yearold poses as resident doctor of AIIMS, arrested
NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old man was arrested on Saturday from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) premises for allegedly impersonating as a senior resident doctor of the hospital. Police said the impersonator used to wear white coat and roam around the hospital premises posing as a doctor.
Romil Baaniya, deputy commissioner of police (South), said the arrested i mpersonator, Ashish Tripathi from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, is a diploma holder in operation theatre and management from a private institute in Lucknow.
“There was a fake doctor caught in the hospital today. This is sixth or seventh such case so far this year,” said Dr Harjit Singh Bhatti, president, resident doctors association, AIIMS.
DCP Baaniya said Tripathi was caught around 11 am by the security guards of the hospital after they found him loitering in the hospital. When confronted, Tripathi identified himself as a senior resident doctor at AIIMS but failed to produce his identity card. The local police was informed and he was handed over to them.
A case of impersonation was registered and Tripathi was arrested.
During the interrogation, DCP Baaniya said, Tripathi revealed that his wife is pregnant and to facilitate the entry of his wife in the hospital ward he identified himself as a doctor.
