Chinese national arrested with fake Indian passport and Aadhaar card
NEWDELHI: Delhi Police on Friday said they arrested a Chinese national who was carrying forged Indian identification documents, including a passport and an Aadhaar card, from north Delhi.
A case of forgery and cheating has been registered against him, police said.
Police officials said the man, identified as 39-year-old Charlie Peng, was questioned by central intelligence agencies after he was found to be carrying a fake Indian passport along with an Aadhaar card.
Police said they arrested Peng on September 12 from north Delhi’s Majnu Ka Tila, after they received information that he was carrying a fake Indian passport. Peng reportedly told the police he had got the fake passport in Guwahati. Police said they have recovered foreign currency from him.
“During questioning, we found out that he stays in Gurugram and pays rent of more than ₹1.5 lakh. He also has an office in Gurugram for which he pays more than ₹2 lakh as rent. We suspect that he may be involved in a hawala racket. Central intelligence agencies have also been roped in and Enforcement Directorate has been informed,” said a senior police officer from Delhi Police’s special cell on condition of anonymity.
Police officials said they have learnt that Peng is reportedly married to a woman from Mizoram. Police said they are yet to come across any evidence indicating he may be have spied for his country. “He has been misleading police during interrogation. We are probing the matter,” the officer said.
