NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old car mechanic on Thursday night allegedly killed a 32-year-old man who he claimed had been in a relationship with his wife in northwest Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar, police said.

Police said the wife of Amarnath, the car mechanic, had reportedly left him earlier this week and had been living with Manav alias Mohan, a tailor. She had also taken along her five children, police said.

Around 10.28pm on Thursday, police said they received information at the Swaroop Nagar police station that a man had been beaten to death at his house in the neighbourhood.

Deputy commissioner of police (northwest) Aslam Khan said when a police team was rushed to the spot, they found Mohan wounded, lying on the floor. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Khan said a case of murder was registered and during initial probe, they found that Amarnath, who works at an auto repair workshop in the neighbourhood, had attacked Mohan with a stick.

“Investigation revealed that Amarnath’s wife Rani (35) was in an alleged relationship with Mohan. Around 4-5 days ago, Rani had allegedly left Amarnath’s house and had started living with Mohan. The couple was married for past 16 years and had five kids,” DCP Khan said.

The DCP said that Amarnath, who was furious over his wife leaving him, arrived at Mohan’s doorsteps on Thursday night demanding that his wife come back home. “Following this, the two men had an argument during which Amarnath hit Mohan with a stick. Amarnath was arrested the same night,” Khan said.
