Delhi Police failed to control law and order, says AAP

-

NEWDELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday, reacting to a politician’s son waving a gun at a five-star hotel, blamed Delhi Police for the “deteriorating” law and order in the national capital.

The ruling party said police officers were busy ‘targeting’ its leaders, lawmakers and ministers and hence do not find time to protect citizens.

“I saw the incident on social media. It shows how criminals are having a field day in the national capital and anyone can brandish a gun in a public space,” said AAP leader Dilip Pandey.

Dilip Pandey said it was not for no reason that the capital was termed ‘crime capital’ of India. “Even NCRB data says crimes in Delhi are more than in other three metropolitan cities put together,” Pandey said.

Delhi Police’s public relations officer Madhur Verma said it was a one-off incident and police registered an FIR under relevant sections. “It is an isolated incident. We are taking legal action,” the PRO said. On allegations that crime in Delhi had increased, Verma said data clearly showed heinous crimes in Delhi had reduced substantially.

“Detection in heinous crime cases has significantly increased. Police have taken seriously a crackdown on the use of illegal weapons and action under the Arms Act is being taken regularly,” Verma said.
