45yearold factory worker dies after machine blade slashes his throat

NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old factory worker was killed when the metallic blade of a steel utensilsma­king machine broke and slit his throat at a factory in northwest Delhi’s Raja Park near Ashok Vihar early Wednesday morning, police said.

Confirming the incident, deputy commission­er of police (north-west), Aslam Khan, said a case under under IPC sections 278 and 304A for negligent conduct with respect to machinery and causing death by negligence respective has been registered.

According to police, the worker, identified as Satyendra Gaur, did not have a protective gear to protect himself from such mishaps at the time of the incident and that they are questionin­g the owner of the factory as to why the workers were not provided any safety gear and to understand whose negligence claimed Gaur’s life. “The factory owner, Sushil, is being questioned. Our probe is on and further action will be taken accordingl­y,” said Khan.

A police officer privy to the details of the case said the incident took place around 2.30am while Gaur and other workers were manufactur­ing steel utensils at the factory. His fellow workers told police that Gaur was making handles of utensils when the machine’s blade broke and entered his neck. “Gaur sustained deep stab wounds and was bleeding profusely when other workers rushed him to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, where he was declared brought dead,” said the officer.
