AAP only party that cares about farmers’ issues: Kejri
We welcome Rampalji in Aam Aadmi Party. Only AAP fights for farmers and gets them their right
ARVIND KEJRIWAL, AAP chief
NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is the only political party that cares about farmers’ welfare, while welcoming Kisan Mahapanchayat founder and former BJP leader Rampal Jat into the party fold.
“We welcome Rampalji in AAP. Only AAP fights for farmers and gets them their right,” the AAP chief wrote in a tweet.
Jat, who is a former Rajasthan general secretary of the BJP, had officially joined AAP in Jaipur on Wednesday. Jat was instrumental in organising a number of farmers’ movements in the past.
With AAP contesting the assembly elections in Rajasthan for the first time, party members say Jat’s entry will help the party garner the support of farmers.
In June this year, the party had announced its support to the protests by two farmer unions in Rajasthan demanding loan waiver.
Rajasthan unit head of AAP, Deepak Bajpai, said Jat had guided the party on issues related to farmers in drafting our poll manifesto. Jat has been demanding the implementation of Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations and Farmers Security Act. He said he was confident would keep its promises to farmers in the manifesto.
Ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha elections, AAP and Yogender Yadavled Swaraj I ndia have been mobilizing farmers on issues concerning them. Earlier this month, Kejriwal extended support to protesting farmers who were forcibly stopped from entering the national capital after the ‘Kisan Kranti Padyatra’ reached the Up-delhi border.
