SOLAR ENERGY INITIATIVE
Sixteen students of Greenway Modern School, Dilshad Garden, took part in the Student Solar Ambassador Workshop under the Solar Urja through localisation for Sustainability (SOULS) initiative which was part of the diamond jubilee celebrations of
IIT Bombay.
The students were accompanied by teachers Poonam Makheeja,
PGT, computer science, and Heena Devgan, TGT, computer science. It was a unique one-day training programme at DAV Vasant Kunj. The students learnt to assemble their own solar study lamps and gained skills of soldering, uses of renewable and non-renewable energy, working of solar panels, PCB and so on. The scientific curiosity of students was aroused in clean technologies. The Student Solar Ambassadors then proceeded to Vigyan Bhawan, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first assembly of the International Solar Alliance. The same event marked the inauguration of the second IORA Renewable Energy Ministerial meetings and the second global re-invest meet. UN secretary general Antonio Guterres and Union minister Sushma Swaraj were present. A group of students of Guru Nanak Public School, Punjabi Bagh, took part in the Gaj Mahotsav to show their support for the National Heritage Animal on the occasion of World Elephant Day.
Gaj Mahotsav is a celebration of the Asian Elephant as India’s National Heritage Animal. It was organised by Wildlife Trust of India and its partner International Fund for Animal Welfare in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the
United Nations Environment Programme. Students learnt about the glory of the elephant. Artists created 101 life-sized elephant art pieces representing elephant corridors.
School principal Reema Punj, chairman S. Gurinderpal Singh Kochhar, manager S. Kuldeep Singh Lyallpuri and finance secretary S Gurvinder Singh Sabharwal exhorted students to help conserve animals and spread awareness.
