NEW DELHI: A day after a 38-yearold woman was shot dead by unidentified assailants in outer Delhi’s Bawana, police are yet to make a breakthrough in the murder case. The deceased, Sunita, was a teacher at a government school in Haryana.

The police have ruled out robbery as a motive behind her murder because all her belongings such as handbag and a cellphone were found intact at the crime scene. An officer said that the handbag had money but it was left untouched.

On Tuesday, Sunita’s husband Manjeet Sehrawat joined the probe. The police said Sunita’s family members have accused Sehrawat of having an affair with another woman. However, the police did not confirm the alle- gations.

Deputy commissioner of police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta, said, “The woman was in Mumbai. She is a model by profession. She has also returned to Delhi and joined probe. We are probing if the murder is a result of Sehrawat’s extramarital affair. We are questioning every one connected to the case.”

During the investigation, the police recovered a Sunita’s diary. A police officer, who did not wish to be named, said, “Except Sunita’s 16-year-old daughter, nobody in the family knew about the diary. We have seized the diary after the teenager told us about it. We are going through its contents. We are also collecting dump data of cellphones active at the spot about the same time when Sunita was murdered. This will help us get leads in the case,” added the officer.

A primary school teacher at Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School at Ferozpur Bangar village in Sonepat, Haryana, Sunita was riding to school on her scooter on Monday morning when she was shot dead allegedly by unidentified assailants. Her killers had pumped three bullets into her body – two in her chest and one in her upper abdomen – on the road around two kilometres from her house at Bawana village.

While nobody witnessed who fired at the woman, a passerby who spotted her lying on the road, informed the police control room. She was rushed to the nearby Maharishi Valmiki hospital in Rohini, where doctors declared her brought dead.
