JNU enforcing attendance norm despite HC order: Student union
NEW DELHI: The Jawaharlal University Students Union (JNUSU) on Friday alleged that the university administration continued to implement the compulsory attendance norm despite the Delhi High Court’s directions against its enforcement till the matter is sub judice.
The JNUSU office bearers alleged that the administration was asking chairpersons and deans of all centres and schools to issue notices to students in case they failed to meet the 75% mandatory attendance norm.
”The administration has been continuously violating the Delhi High Court order related to the imposition of compulsory attendance. The court on July 16 categorically said that no coercive action be taken against students related to the compulsory attendance till the matter is sub judice. But the administration is committing contempt of court by forcing chairpersons to issue notices saying students can’t sit for exams or claim fellowship if it is not fulfilled,” JNUSU president N Sai Balaji said.
“We have submitted the court orders and legal clarification to make them understand how they are violating court orders by stopping someone from sitting for exams or claiming fellowship for failing the 75 percent mandatory attendance norm,” the JNUSU said in a statement.
Despite several attempts, JNU VC Jagadesh Kumar and Registrar Pramod Kumar did not respond for a comment.
