MODEL UN MEET
Red Roses Public School, Saket, held its second Model United Nations Meet in which 75 students, including eight from its sister branch at Palam Vihar, participated in the event each representing a country as a delegate.
The meet was aimed at developing insights into the working of the UNO, learning international relations, diplomacy, public speaking skills, carrying in-depth research and improving critical and analytical thinking among the students.
The RRMUN comprised two main organs — the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and United Nations Security Council (UNSC) besides United Nations Environment Committee (UNEA). Each forum was headed by a chairperson, vice-chairperson and a rapporteur. The Model GA consisting of 35 delegates from various member countries discussed the topic, internet censorship; 15 delegates of SC discussed cyber terrorism and cyber security, while 25 delegates of EA deliberated on marine and land pollution. Each delegate carried out an in-depth research on the topic and the country’s stand on it. A press release summing up the outcome of each organ was released.
Simran Khan (UK, UNGA); Abhiroop Das (France, UNSC) and Sarthak Jha (UAE, UNEA) were declared as the best delegates. High commendation was awarded to Yash Gaur (France, UNGA), Shruti Dubey (Israel, UNSC) and Divyam Mishra (Bulgaria, UNEA). Sakshi Tyagi (USA, UNGA), Japit Chhabra (China, UNSC) and Katherine Prasad (North Korea, UNEA) won special mention.
The best dressed delegate award was conferred on Arnav Mahajan (Philippines, RRPS, Palam Vihar) and Akshat Dwivedi (N. Korea, UNGA), Parishi Mishra (Russia) and Kamal Kharel (Turkey, UNSC), and Ruqaiya Anwar( Iraq) and Divyam Mishra (Bulgaria, UNEA). The event that was guided by the social science faculty.
