GURUGRAM: A 33-year-old man was allegedly held at gunpoint and robbed of ₹66,000 after he took a ride from Gurugram’s Atlas Chowk to his Delhi home, on national highway 48 (NH-48) on Monday night.

This is the fifth such incident in the last 20 days on NH-48. In this incident, the victim was allegedly driven around for close to three hours without running into a single check post along the way.

Police have not identified the car or the accused or discovered any CCTV footage of the incident, said Vinod Kumar, station house officer of Sector 17/18 Police Station.

On Monday night, Rahul Gupta, a resident of Azadpur in Delhi, was at Atlas Chowk. “Around 9.10 pm, I was offered a drop to Azadpur and I took it,” said Gupta. He said that there were four others in the car and he sat in the back.

When the cab reached IFFCO Chowk, one of the “passengers” took out a gun and forced Gupta to withdraw money from an ATM. “They showed me the photo of a man with a black eye and said this was someone who did not cooperate with them earlier in the night and showed me a bag that they allegedly snatched from him,” Gupta said. He was finally let off at IFFCO Chowk around 11.50 pm, he said. “There was no police barricade on the route they (accused) took me at night,” said Gupta.

An FIR was registered at Sector 17/18 Police Station under section 379A (snatching), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act. “We are trying to nab the accused and two units of Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) are on it,” said Shamsher Singh, assistant commissioner of police (ACP) (crime). Singh urged people to not share rides in unverified. GURUGRAM: About 14,000 fewer vehicles have been entering the Gurugram from the Kherki Daula toll plaza every day since the opening of the Kundli-manesar section of the KMP (Kundli-manesar-palwal) Expressway on November 19, show official data.

Experts say that the expressway, which is part of the extended ring road comprising the KMP Expressway and Kundli-ghaziabad-palwal(kgp) Expressway encircling Delhi, will reduce decongestion and check pollution in NCR cities.

Data gathered by the concessionaire MCEPL, and operator Skylark, reveals that on an average, 14,000 fewer vehicles have been passing through the Kherki Daula toll plaza daily from Jaipur to Delhi, since November 15 when it was

opened. Surprisingly, the figures reveal that not only trucks but smaller vehicles, such as cars, and light commercial vehicles are also preferring the KMP Expressway

“Most of the commercial vehicles bound for Punjab are taking this road, while smaller vehicles headed for Chandigarh and adjoining districts are also taking this road ,” says Navneet Pratap Singh, CEO, Skylark.

Anumita Roychowdhury, executive director, Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) said that completion of the KMP Expressway is a positive development for both transport and environment, as trucks need not wait outside Gurugram and Delhi for entry.

“The road also makes economic sense, as a truck while entering Delhi has to pay toll, and environment compensation tax, which they can avoid now,” she said.
