NEW DELHI: Four cash collection agents were robbed of ₹39 lakh at gunpoint by three unidentified bike-borne men in west Delhi’s Pandav Nagar on Wednesday morning.

Police said the two men intercepted the agent’s car and fired two shots in the car to scare them before fleeing with the cash bag. Efforts were being made to identify them, police said.

According to the police, the incident took place around 10:30 am. The four men who were travelling in the car—anil Kumar (27), Mohammad Arshad (44), Praveen Kumar (45) and Bhupendra Sharma (29)— work for a private firm in Ranjeet Nagar.

Praveen was driving and Bhupendra was sitting beside him. The four men told police that they had left their office to deposit cash in a bank.

“They said soon as they neared Shadipur, three men intercepted their vehicle on two motorcycles. The trio got off their bikes and took out pistols.

Police said one of the bullets hit the windshield of the car but no one was injured.

“The three men then took the cash bag and sped away,” the officer said.

One of the four men then rushed back to their office while others called the police. Police said it appeared the accused were trailing the car and were aware that a big amount of cash was being transported.

Amit Sharma, additional deputy commissioner of police (central), said they had registered a case under section 392 for robbery and Arms Act at the Ranjit Nagar police station. “Multiple teams have been formed to arrest the accused. We are probing role of an insider or a former employee of the firm,” he said.
