ETAH/MEERUT/LUCKNOW: Another cow carcass was recovered from the Jahangirabad area in violence-hit Bulandshahr Wednesday morning but no trouble was reported, police officials said.

The carcass was found 29 kilometres southwest of Mahaw village, where the carcasses of cows were allegedly recovered on Sunday night and triggered violent clashes a day later. The mob violence left a police inspector and a 21-year-old villager dead.

Additional director general (ADG) of police, law and order, Anand Kumar said the situation was under control in Bulandshahr. Special investigation team (SIT) and special task force (STF) officials said they were trying to find out how the cow carcasses reached the spot, an officer privy to the probe said.

A senior police official said he suspected the cows were slaughtered elsewhere and the carcasses were dumped near Mahwa village. “The carcasses were dumped near the village after being slaughtered at some distance. We have found at least three spots, including two mango orchards, within a radius of two km, where cow dung and blood stains were found. It suggested the cows were slaughtered there and carcasses were dumped near the village population,” he said.

Meanwhile, a group of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders met the family of Yogesh Raj, the main accused in the violence, at his village Nayagaon and assured them full support. “We are ready to fight any excess and injustice,” said Bajrang Dal’s regional convenor Balraj Singh Dungar, hours after Raj proclaimed his innocence in a video and claimed he was never near the spot where clashes broke out on Monday.

Chief minister Yogi Aditya- nath is expected to meet slain inspector Subodh Kumar Singh’s family on Thursday morning. “We would like to know from chief minister as to what measures are being taken for success of investigation...,” said his younger son Abhishek Pratap Singh. “Hate culture in name of religion should be discouraged as religion is a holy thing and need to be respected and should not be used as football for ulterior motives,” said Abhishek Pratap Singh. “I lost my father in most unfortunate manner but it is not a question of one family facing such loss but is matter of thousands of family who have faced such tragedy...,” he added.
