POLICE SAID THE GIRL TOLD SOME OF HER FRIENDS THAT SHE WOULD SOON CHANGE SCHOOLS

NEW DELHI: A 12-year-old girl allegedly took her life at her house in west Delhi’s Inderpuri on December 1, police said on Thursday.

Police are probing allegations that the minor took the extreme step after she was scolded by her school teacher.

The girl, a student of class seven, had scribbled messages to “God” and her parents.

According to the police, the child’s mother, a practising lawyer, found the girl hanging in a room around 4 pm on Saturday. Police said the mother raised an alarm and called for help, after which the girl was brought down and rushed to a hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.

A senior police officer said the girl’s mother said that she had found her daughter crying on Friday, the day before she allegedly killed herself.

“The girl told her mother that her biology teacher had scolded her. The mother also said the girl refused to go to school on Saturday. The girl was alone at home when the incident happened,” a police officer said.

Additional commissioner of police (west) Sameer Sharma said, “The girl did not name anyone in particular in her message. We are probing to ascertain the reason for her death,” the additional DCP said.

Police are now speaking to the girl’s classmates to find out if she had issues with any teacher in particular.

Police said that the girl had told some of her friends that she would soon change schools.

The school management has also formed a committee to look into the matter, police said.

“We are probing the possible reasons and if anyone is found to be at fault, a case will be registered against the person,” Sharma said.
