Yoddha edge past Haryana Steelers in PKL
NEWDELHI: UP Yoddha produced a superb all-round display to eke out a thrilling 30-29 win over Haryana Steelers in an encounter of the Inter Zone Challenge Week at the Pro Kabaddi Season 6 here on Thursday. Shrikant Jadhav and Prahsant Rai scored 8 points each to lead Yoddha to victory.
JINDAL PANTHER WIN
NEWDELHI: Jindal Panther beat 61 Cavalry 7-6, while Rajnigandha Achievers beat Col Girdhari Singh ASC by 8 goals to 6 ½ in league matches of the IPG Col Girdhari Singh Memorial Cup polo tournament. Jindal Panther will take on Col Girdhari Singh ASC, while Rajnigandha Achievers will clash with 61 Cavalry in the semi-finals on Saturday.
NATIONAL SQUASH
NEWDELHI: The Sr National Squash Championship will commence from December 9 at the Siri Fort Sports Complex and HCL Technology Hub, Noida.
The tournament will witness 530 players competing in various categories in men’s and women’s section.
FORMER SWIMMER DEAD
KOLKATA: Seven-time former national champion swimmer Arun Kumar Shaw passed away following a prolonged illness. He was 82. Shaw was the first swimmer from Bengal to receive the Arjuna Award in 1967. A butterfly swimmer, Shaw reigned supreme for the Railways, winning the National title in 1959, 1962, 1964, 1965-67.
VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE
NEWDELHI: Olympic gold medallist David Lee will headline the first Pro Volleyball League draft and auction which will see participa- tion from hundreds of Indian and international stars on December 14 here.
The league will kick-start its first season in February 2019. A total of 117 Indian players have been categorised in four categories. The international players will be picked by the six franchises through a draft process.
