Three more members of ‘Kranti’ gang held

NEWDELHI: Three days after a shootout between Delhi Police special cell officers and members of the ‘ Kranti’ gang near the Dhaula Kuan Metro station that led to the arrest of its kingpin Jitender alias Jitu, police have caught three more alleged gang members.

The three include Devender alias Sonu Kharkhadi, who had sustained a gunshot injury in his right thigh during the shootout. Another key member of the gang, Ranveer, who was also involved in the shootout and a bullet had pierced his right palm, is still on the run.

A Creta car in which the duo had fled during the encounter was found abandoned in Mahipalpur area, police said.

Deputy commission­er of police (special cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said that the gang was also involved in the robbery of the Creta car belonging to the station house officer (SHO) of the Naraina police station. They had robbed the car from the officer’s son at gunpoint, right outside the exit gate of an apartment in Dwarka where the officer lives with his family.

“We have recovered the inspector’s Creta from Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu. A robbed i-20 car in which the three men were travelling at the time of their arrest from near Golf Course Road in Dwarka in the early hours of Thursday was also seized. Two pistols and four cartridges were recovered from their possession,” said Yadav.

The other two arrested men were identified as Shekhar (only first name was given) and Ravinder Kumar. Kharkhadi, involved in more than 15 cases, carried a reward of ₹1 lakh on his arrest while police had announced ₹50,000 reward on Shekhar’s arrest. On Tuesday around 9 pm, a shootout took place between them and the police.

On Thursday night, police received informatio­n that the injured man would come to Dwarka to meet a doctor. Accordingl­y, a trap was laid and the three men were caught, said police.
