NEWDELHI: The Delhi Police have arrested two associates of jailed gangster Satyawan alias Sonu Dariyapur who allegedly accompanied him in many murderous assaults on rivals. They went together to kill rival Bhupender alias Monu Dariyapur and two others, including Monu’s personal security officer, in Delhi’s Mianwali Nagar last year.

Three firearms, including a Webley revolver, and 135 bullets were recovered from the two men. Police said the two had arranged the arms and ammunition to intimidate and kill some witnesses in the triple murder case. Sonu was arrested after the murders and is in jail.

The arrested men – Vijay Sehrawat alias Lamba amd Sanjay Lakra – were involved in cases of murder, extortion, attempt to murder and booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). They were evading arrest for the last 12 years and carried a reward of Rs 2 lakh each on their arrest, police said on Saturday.

Deputy commissioner of police (special cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah said Sehrawat and Lakra were involved in almost all the attacks on Monu, his wife Rajrani, and his associates . “The two were running the gang after Sonu’s arrest. To avoid arrest, they shifted their hideouts in various states,” said Kushwah.

Police said the special cell team had been receiving information that the absconding accomplices of Sonu Dariyapur were planning to kill witnesses who had refused to turn hostile in court, and were collecting extortion money to fight the cases.

On Friday, the team received inputs that Sehrawat and Lakra had entered Delhi with arms and ammunition to kill case witnesses. Police said had information the duo would go to Pochanpur near Dwarka to meet their associates.

“Our team laid a trap and the two gangsters were caught soon after they arrived there in an i-10 car. An English Webley revolver, two pistols and 135 cartridges were seized,” said Kushwah.

Son of a retired police officer, Sehrawat belongs to Dariyapur village in outer Delhi. He completed his Bachelor in arts (BA) from Delhi University. Sehrawat started visiting a local wrestling ground at a very young age and came in contact with gangster Sonu Dariyapur and joined him, said police. “Sehrawat has more than half a dozen criminal cases of MCOCA, murder, assault, attempt to murder registered against him. Lakra has 20 cases against him,” said Kushwah.
