Lahiri cards one-over to be tied 63 after R3

HONOLULU: Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri ended with a one-over 71 in the third round that saw him drop to three-under 207 for a Tied-63rd spot at the Sony Open. The lead stayed with Matt Kuchar, who kept another clean card and shot a 4-under 66 to take a two-shot lead into the final round of the Sony Open as he goes for his second victory this season on PGA Tour. In his third round, Lahiri found seven of 14 fairways and 14 of 18 greens in regulation but left no misses on putts within 10 feet.

INDIA’S 1956 OLYMPIAN FOOTBALLER NO MORE

HYDERABAD: Former India footbal- ler Mohammed Zulfiqarud­din, who was part of the fourth place finishing team in the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, passed away on Sunday. He was 83. India lost to Bulgaria 0-3 in the bronze-medal match in Melbourne to finish fourth, a result considered one of the finest moments in the country’s football history.

NATIONAL ‘B’ DIVISION HOCKEY CHAMPIONSH­IP

CHENNAI: Bengal, Rajasthan, Central Industrial Security Force and Food Corporatio­n of India registered wins in the Hockey India Senior National Hockey Championsh­ip 2019 (Men) ‘B’ Division on Sunday.

Indian Arrows produced a dominant performanc­e to secure a 3-0 victory over Shillong Lajong in a 12th round I-league match at the JLN Stadium on Sunday.

Indian Arrows showed their attacking intent from the first minute and pressed hard. They were constantly troubling the Lajong defence but a good finish eluded them.

It took Shillong Lajong around 10 minutes to regroup and start an attack. Lajong first made an attempt to score in the 11th minute, through Kitrboklan­g, but failed to convert the chance.

Indian Arrows, on the other hand, kept pressing hard and were soon rewarded in the 18th minute, when Vikram Pratap’s excellent header from an Ashish Rai cross found the back of the net, helping the visitors take a crucial lead in the game.

Indian Arrows continued with their attacks, and were again rewarded in the 32nd minute when a Vikram Pratap pass was brilliantl­y collected by Lalengmawi­a, who made no mistake in giving his side a two-goal lead in the game.

Indian Arrows showcased their dominance further when they fired the third goal in the final seconds of injury time of the first half. Ninthoi found the back of the net from a rebound after a Lalengmawi­a shot was beautifull­y saved by Shillong keeper Neithovili­e.

EAST BENGAL TAKE ON CHENNAI CITY

COIMBATORE: East Bengal will be aiming to remain in title contention when they take on table toppers Chennai City FC in an important away fixture of the I-league football tournament on Monday. East Bengal were beaten by Chennai during their home leg encounter and Monday will provide them with an opportunit­y to get even. East Bengal’s Spanish coach Alejandro Garcia also seems to have settled in on his defensive formation fitting in Costa Rican World Cupper Johny Acosta.
