Water is precious, save for future generations

-

I T I S E V E RY W H E R E bu t s t i l l nowhere. It is near me but still far, far away. What is it? No wonder it is a tough riddle because the one who understands this will definitely know the value of it. Without much ado, let the answer be revealed. It is water.

Water is around us but very few people appreciate the importance of this nature’s gift. Even in 21st century some countries are fighting hard for water while some are wasting it.

South Africa’s capital Cape Town and many other cities in the world are suffering from water scarcity.

The time has come for us to act. It is often thought that changing a person’s habit can hardly make a difference. But small changes do make a difference.

Water is wasted in abundance in most places in the world. Starting from home, we waste water by taking a bath under a shower rather than using a bucket because we e n j o y i t . S i m i l a rl y, a w a s h i n g machine is used even when there are very few clothes and a huge amount of water goes down the drain.

In gardens and farmlands water pipes are often found leaking or are left open for a long period. Industrial units are no better. What a shame?

Our forefathers left ample water for us. But we are wasting it without thinking how it will affect the lives of our future generations. Give it a thought!

Water could be saved and not misused. So next time you are wasting water, think at least ten times how you are contributing to the global water crisis. So act now to save water. Else get ready to face the next world war, which is likely to happen over water.

I would like to end this with a very famous quote from the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Samuel Taylor Coleridge. “Water, water everywhere, but not a single drop to drink!”

This would be the situation soon if we do not act now. It’s now or never! AISHANI VAIDYA Class 10 A, Army Public School, Noida
