Lahiri tied-43rd in Hawaii, Kuchar wins

HONOLULU: Anirban Lahiri rounded off the week with a fourunder 66 that included six birdies and a double bogey to finish tied 43rd in the Sony Open in Hawaii. Lahiri totalled seven-under 273 with rounds of 68, 68, 73 and 66. Matt Kuchar turned in an amazing display of front-running to win the title with a final card of 22-under 258 and win his second title in three starts.

DAKAR RALLY

NEW DELHI: Chilean rider Pablo Quintanill­a took the lead in the Dakar Rally motorcycle standings from American Ricky Brabec, now four and a half minutes behind, after winning the 6th stage. Britain’s 2017 Dakar winner Sam Sunderland dropped from second to seventh after losing nearly 23 minutes. India’s Aravind Prabhakar of TVS was in 44th place. Hero riders Oriol Mena was 20th with Joaquim Rodrigues on 30th.

CHENNAI: Kerala held Patiala 4-4, Coorg beat Steel Plant Sports Board 2-1, SAI beat All India Police Sports Control Board 2-1, HIM beat Assam 5-1 and Madhya Bharat beat Goans 9-3 in the Senior National Hockey Championsh­ip (Men) B Division.

DELHI GMS’ CHESS

NEW DELHI: Iranian GM Mosadeghpo­ur Masoud beat Tran Tuan Minh of Vietnam in the eighth round of 17th Delhi Internatio­nal Grandmaste­rs Chess. Masoud was on 7 points, halfpoint ahead of Debashis Das, Diptayan Ghosh, Erigaisi Arjun and Stupak Kirill.

SUSPENDED FOR DOPING

MONACO: Four-time Asian Games champion Kemi Adekoya has been provisiona­lly suspended after testing positive for an anabolic steroid. The Athletics Integrity Unit says a “notice of allegation” was sent to Adekoya, a Nigerian-born runner who switched allegiance to Bahrain. Last August at the Asian Games, she took gold in the 4x400 mixed relay and 400m hurdles, where India’s Anu Raghavan had finished fourth. If Adekoya’s medal is scrapped, Raghavan could end up with a bronze.

MAHARATHI WIN

NEW DELHI: Mumbai Maharathi defeated defending champions NCR Punjab Royals 4-3 in the first match of the Pro Wrestling League (PWL) Season 4 at the Tau Devi Lal Indoor Stadium in Panchkula. Vinesh Phogat clinched the tie for the Mumbai team winning the sixth bout of the evening to give her team an unassailab­le 4-2 lead.
