Shubhankar top draw at PGTI Players C’ship

NEW DELHI: With Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points being awarded to Profession­al Golf Tour of India (PGTI) events since the start of the 2019 season, world No 118 Shubhankar Sharma will be the highestran­ked player at this week’s PGTI Players Championsh­ip, which gets underway from Tuesday at the Classic Golf and Country Club in Mewat, Haryana.

Shubhankar will be appearing on home soil since the Hero Indian Open in March last, and this week will allow both preparatio­n and rest for the 22-yearold before he embarks on a prolonged run on the European Tour, where he won twice last season. It was nothing short of a dream year as he became the youngest Indian to win the European Tour’s Rookie of the Year and bagged the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit.

MICKELSON LEADS

SAN FRANCISCO: Phil Mickelson was closing in on a fifth Pebble Beach Pro-am title when darkness halted play in the final round of the weather-hit US PGA Tour tournament. Mickelson will return to play the last two holes on Monday holding a three-shot lead over playing partner Paul Casey.

HISAR: Railways defeated Karnataka 4-0 at the 9th Senior Women National Championsh­ip here on Monday. In the other Pool A encounter, Odisha beat Rajasthan 5-2. In a Pool B match, Gangpur-odisha drew 2-2 with Chhattisga­rh.

JIWAJI RAO GOLD CUP

NEWDELHI: The Jiwaji Rao Scindia Gold Cup started in Delhi on Monday with 61 Cavalry beating LA Pegasus Polo 6-5. Col Ravi Rathore scored all six goals for 61 Cavalry. Dhruvpal Godara (3) and Samir Suhag (2) scored for LA Pegasus Polo.
