Odisha beat Coorg 3-0 to stay afloat in Senior National Women’s Hockey

HISAR: Odisha defeated Coorg 3-0 in their last Pool A match to stay in contention for a place in the quarterfin­als of the ninth Hockey Senior Women National Championsh­ip (Division A) here Tuesday. Odisha ended their pool engagement with six points from four games, while Coorg remained at the bottom of the table.

In Pool B, Hockey GangpurOdi­sha beat Bhopal 3-1 to register their first win of the competitio­n in their last match.

The win took Hockey Gangpur-odisha to four points from four matches, and occupy the third spot in their pool, while Bhopal remained winless.

Uttar Pradesh and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) played out a 1-1 draw in a Pool C match.

INDIA ‘A’ WIN

LUCKNOW: The India ‘A’ women’s hockey team defeated France ‘A’ 2-0 in the third match to take a 2-1 lead in the four-match series at the Padma Shri Mohammad Shahid Synthetic Hockey Stadium here Tuesday.

Local girl Mumtaz Khan (42nd minute) and Sharmila Devi (60th) scored for the home team.

PRO VOLLEYBALL

KOCHI: Black Hawks Hyderabad scripted a thrilling 3-2 comeback win over U Mumba Volley in a Pro Volleyball League match here Tuesday. The Hyderabad oufit defeated U Mumba 13-15 15-11, 7-15, 15-14 ,15-11 to keep their play-off chances alive.

Rohit Kumar led the scoring for Hyderabad with 10 points (6 spikes, 4 blocks) whereas Pankaj Sharma scored 15 points (14 spikes and 1 block) for U Mumba.

It was a tight finish but U Mumba finally came through.
