K’taka scraps Tipu Sultan event
BENGALURU: Karnataka’s new BJP government led by BS Yediyurappa on Tuesday cancelled the birth anniversary celebration of Tipu Sultan, the 18th century ruler of Mysore, terming it as “controversial and communal”.
The decision was taken on a petition by BJP leader KG Bopaiah, who hails from Kodagu district where violence was reported when it was first celebrated in 2015. “I had expected this from the very beginning. The BJP tried to destabilise it. There was internal bickering in the Congress that added fuel,” he said in an interview to Hindustan Times on
