Schumi watching Formula One on TV: ex-ferrari boss

- HT Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher is making “good progress” and watches Formula One races on TV, the legend’s former Ferrari boss and friend Jean Todt revealed on Tuesday. In a rare update on the racing great, Todt, now the head of international automobile federation (FIA), told Radio Monte-carlo: “I am always careful with such statements, but it’s true. I saw the race together with Michael Schumacher at his home in Switzerland.”

Schumacher’s family has kept information regarding him from going public ever since the German’s accident while skiing in the French Alps in December 2013. Schumacher, now 50, has not been seen in public since hitting his head on a rock during the accident. He was hospitalised in Grenoble initially, placed under induced coma, before being shifted to his home in Geneva.

Todt was the Ferrari team principal when Schumacher won five of his seven world titles consecutively with the Italian team from 2000 to 2004.

“Michael is in the best hands and is well looked after in his house. He does not give up and keeps fighting. His family is fighting just as much and of course our friendship cannot be the same as it once was. Just because there’s no longer the same communication as before. He continues to fight. And his family is fighting the same way,” Todt said.
