LUCKNOW: Medical condition of the gang rape survivor, who sustained critical injuries in a cartruck collision on Sunday, is still critical, doctors said here on Wednesday.

“There is little improvement in her health condition,” said Sandip Tiwari, head of the department of trauma surgery at King George’s Medical University, where both the victim and her lawyer are battling for life.

The lawyer was put on oxygen on Wednesday after he was taken off ventilator for a few hours. “This is the process of weaning from ventilator,” said Tiwari.

Dr Samir Misra, senior faculty of trauma surgery, said: “The woman was in shock, apart from having fractured the femur bone and the collar bone and sustaining an injury in the chest. Her condition is critical but stable. But ever since she has been put on ventilator, her condition has not deteriorated further.” Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal separately meet governor Anandiben Patel in Lucknow and seek her intervention. Yadav says his party stands by the victim. Maliwal demands fast-track trial and disqualification of Sengar as MLA. Rape survivor’s uncle writes to PM, urging him to expel Sengar from BJP. He says Unnao Police foisting fake cases on family. In another letter addressed to the district magistrate of Unnao, he seeks to be transferred to Unnao district jail from Rae Bareli where he is currently lodged in an old attempt to murder case. Mayawati says BJP protecting Sengar. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra says Congress is committed to justice for the survivor’s family. In Lok Sabha, opposition parties raise the issue and walk out of the House demanding a reply from the government. Members from the Congress, DMK, NCP, RSP and IUML take part in the protest.
