SHUTDOWN OBSERVED AFTER ATTACK, SECURITY TIGHTENED

SRINAGAR: A day after one person died and 35 were left injured in a grenade attack in Srinagar’s Hari Singh High Street market, traders and vendors observed a shutdown on Tuesday.

Deputy inspector general of police, Central Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdhi, said the police were looking at various clues and had not yet identified the attackers.

“We are investigat­ing and looking into various clues. I also saw the CCTV footage. We would be assessing these clues.”

The 35 injured, included three security personnel. The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Rinku Singh, a resident of Saharanpur, they said.

Meanwhile, early on Tuesday, Pakistani Rangers targeted forward posts along the Line of Control (LOC) in Poonch district with small arms firing, a defence official said. The Army effectivel­y retaliated.

“At 7.40am, the Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing of small arms along LOC in Kirni sector of Poonch district,” he said.
