Govt to send advisory to states to check crimes against women
TELANGANA Another woman’s charred body found after veterinarian’s rape-murder; cops say reason of death not clear
NEW DELHI: The Centre on Friday said it will send an advisory to all states to take precautionary steps to check crimes against women in the wake of the suspected gang rape and murder of a veterinarian in Hyderabad.
Union minister of state for home G Kishan Reddy said he has been in touch with officials of the Telangana government so that those who were involved in crime are caught and punished.
“The ministry of home affairs will send an advisory to all states as a precautionary measure so that no such incident takes place in future,” he told reporters outside Parliament.
Four men were arrested for the alleged gang-rape and murder of the 27-year-old woman veterinary doctor, whose charred body was found under a culvert on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
Later in the night, the charred body of another woman, who is yet to be identified, was found in the same locality. The suspected killing of the unidentified woman was reported from the same area — Shamshabad — where the woman veterinarian was allegedly raped and killed.
Assistant police commissioner Ashok Kumar Goud said some passersby noticed the burnt body and informed them. Police were rushed to the spot, and sent the body to a state-run hospital, he added. It was not clear whether the woman committed suicide or she was killed, he said.
Earlier, the National Commission for Women (NCW) constituted an inquiry committee to look into the alleged killing of the 27-year-old veterinarian. NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma said in a tweet that the panel would not “leave any stone unturned” till the perpetrators get the punishment they deserve.
In a letter to Cyberabad police commissioner VC Sajjanar, Sharma said the commission is disturbed by the incident and is concerned about the safety of women.
