19-year-old student dead, 2 injured as car rams parked truck on e-way

GHAZIABAD: A 19-year-old man was killed and two of his friends were injured when their car rammed a truck that was parked haphazardl­y on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) early on Saturday morning.

The police said the victim was identified as Ansh Gupta, from Agra, while the other two were identified as Tulika Singh and Shikhar Chaudhary, both of whom are residents of Dhampur in Bijnor district.

“The incident took place around 5am when they were travelling to Murthal in their car, and did not spot the truck that was parked on the EPE. The speeding car crashed into the back of the truck. Ansh, who is a BBA student at a college in Noida, succumbed to injuries,” said Dharmendra Singh, station house officer, Chandinaga­r police station.

The two suffered severe injuries and were sent for treatment.

“Both are stable and under treatment. Based on a complaint made by Ansh Gupta’s family, we have registered an FIR against the unidentifi­ed truck driver, who fled the spot. The vehicle has been seized. The driver will be identified using details of the truck, and he will be arrested soon,” Singh said.

Indian Penal Code’s sections 304A (causing death by negligence), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangerin­g life or personal safety of others) and other sections was registered.

NK Jain, project director, National Highways Authority of India did not respond to calls requesting comment.

In another accident on EPE, a 42-year-old driver was killed when his mini-truck rammed a stationary truck near Muradnagar on Saturday morning.

“The truck driver had parked his vehicle on the road and went to sleep. In the meantime, the mini-truck, going from Baghpat to Ghaziabad rammed the rear of the parked truck and led to the death of Sri Ram, the driver. The helper of the bus was injured and he is still under treatment. We have registered an FIR. The erring truck driver has fled, and we will nab him soon,” said OP Singh, station house officer, Muradnagar police station.

The two incidents came just days after another accident this month on the National Highway stretch of the Delhi-meerut Expressway.

Three of a family from Rampur — a couple and their one year old son, died in a similar incident on November 21 when their car hit a stationary truck on the elevated section of the Delhi-meerut Expressway at Pilkhuwa in Hapur district.
