BJP to disrupt House, Cong to protest as politics over illegal colonies heats up
NEWDELHI:THE Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress on Saturday came down on the Delhi government for claiming that only papers issued by it with respect to ownership rights to residents of unauthorised colonies in the city would be valid.
Aam Aadmi Party national convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had earlier said that the people should not believe whatever certificate the central government would provide on ownership rights.
The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Subhash Chopra said his party would start an agitation from Tuesday to protest against the delaying tactics by both the Centre and Kejriwal government in Delhi in giving registry to the eligible residents of the 1,731 unauthorised colonies under the law.
BJP’S Leader of Opposition (LOP) in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, on the other hand, said he will organise a ‘Kaam Roko Prastav’ in the upcoming winter session of the House if the AAP government does not outlay its preparations for giving registry.
Blaming the Bjp-ruled Centre, Delhi Congress leader Arvinder Lovely alleged that nearly 40-45% unauthorised colonies in the Capital will not be regularised, pointing out a specific section in the notification issued by the ministry of housing and urban affairs.
“These areas -- including Okhla, Tughalqabad, Buland Masjid, etc. -- cannot be regularised as they are near the Yamuna riverbed or historical monuments. We want this notification to be withdrawn or amended immediately,” he said.
The Lok Sabha on Thursday cleared a bill to grant ownership rights to residents of 1,731 unauthorised colonies in Delhi.
BJP’S Gupta said while the central government and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) are creating assistance centres for the people, there is no effort from the Delhi government regarding arranging computer operators or preparing infrastructure.
“We challenge the government to clarify what arrangements have been made by it for the registration of 8-10 lakh people. Otherwise, we will come up with a ‘Kaam Roko Prastav’ in the House in this session and force him to clarify his position on this,” he said.
AAP and the Delhi government refused to respond to these allegations.
Congress’s Chopra said union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Puri has not tabled the list of unauthorised colonies in Parliament. “It has become all too evident that BJP is already feeling guilty. We will not allow any other policy other than the one applied by the Congress when Indira Gandhi’s Govenment regularized unauthorized colonies in 1976-77,” he said.
Vijender Gupta blamed the Delhi government. “We will ask the CM why he is not prepared for December 16 (when applications for regularisations will begin). The DDA has uploaded 600 maps, but why hasn’t his government not prepared a single map or boundary during his tenure of 57 months?”
