NEW DELHI: A 19-year-old man is battling for his life in a private hospital after being stabbed multiple times allegedly by four persons, including a juvenile, in south Delhi’s Madangir near Ambedkar Nagar on Saturday night. Police believe the attack happened over some personal enmity.

Police have apprehended the juvenile and have arrested three men in connection with the case-mukesh, Rah and Vicky (all identified by their first names only). A case of attempt to murder was registered on the complaint of the injured man’s nephew. The knife used in the crime was also seized from them, the police said.

A police officer associated with the investigation said that the injured man, identified as Chirag, lives with his family in H-block, Madangir. His father runs a shop and sells puja items. On Saturday, Chirag’s father had gone to Rajasthan for some work. Chirag was managing the shop in his absence.

Around 9 pm, Chirag was closing the shop when Mukesh arrived along with Vicky. Mukesh and Chirag were not on good terms for the past few months, police said.

The duo allegedly started passing personal remarks on Chirag. Police said that Chirag initially ignored them but when their remarks turned more harsh, he protested.

“An argument broke out between them. Soon, the duo called their two friends over and they together began assaulting Chirag. When Chirag screamed for help, one of them stabbed him several times before they all fled,” said the officer.

Chirag’s nephew, who witnessed the attack, informed his family members and they rushed Chirag to a nearby private hospital. “His condition is still serious,” the officer said, adding the suspects were identified by the nephew.
