BJP, Congress reach out to residents of illegal colonies
NEWDELHI: With the Delhi Assembly election expected to be held early next year, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has started reaching out to the residents of unauthorised colonies in the city.
BJP’S national vice-president and Delhi in-charge Shyam Jaju, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari along with parliamentarians Parvesh Verma, Hans Raj Hans organised public meetings in the unauthorised colonies of Matiala, Kirari and Nangloi on Sunday and apprised the residents about the steps being taken by the central government to give them ownership rights.
According to Delhi economic survey 2018-19, nearly 4 million people, one-fifth of the total population of the city, live in 1,797 unauthorised colonies across the national capital.
Addressing a public meeting in Matiala, Tiwari said that the governments work after winning elections but the BJP is fulfilling its promise before the elections. He also criticised the AAP and the Congress for not regularising the unauthorised colonies during their tenures.
“The people of Delhi had reposed faith in the AAP in 2015 but even after 57 months of its tenure, the city government has not worked for the people of Delhi. If (Delhi CM) Arvind Kejriwal wanted, then he could have regularised these colonies long ago but actually he did not want to do so,” he said.
Tiwari said that all Delhi MPS have started working on regularization of unauthorised colonies. He said that Delhi BJP will soon issue its election manifesto in which it will be mentioned BJP’S further plans regarding regularization of illegal colonies.
BJP’S Delhi in-charge Shyam Jaju said that the Congress and AAP had misled more than 40 lakh people living in unauthorised colonies for over 20 years but Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to regularise these unauthorised colonies.
He said that the registration for the houses of the people living in all the unauthorised colonies would be started from December 16.
Kuljeet Chahal, who has been given the responsibility of looking after the regularization of unauthorised colonies, said that after residents of such illegal colonies are given ownership rights, they will be able get loans from banks and also avail other benefits.
Parvesh Verma, Member of Parliament from west Delhi said that said that the Congress and the AAP had betrayed the people living in illegal colonies.
There was no fresh response from the AAP over BJP’S allegations on unauthorised colonies matter. However, the AAP had earlier criticised the BJP’S move to provide ownership paper only to 100 people before elections.
CONGRESS RALLY
Meanwhile, the Congress led an ‘Aakrosh rally’ at Bawana against the Bjp-led Centre and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi for “misleading” Delhiites over the issue of regularisation of unauthorised colonies. The party demanded the withdrawal of the November 19 notification that states that falling under reserved or notified forests, ASI protected monuments, O-zone, Yamuna floodplain etc will be excluded from the ownership rights conferment.
