Rape survivor’s father shot dead in Firozabad

AGRA: The father of a rape survivor was shot dead by two bikeborne men in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad on Monday, police officials familiar with the matter said. The victim’s family has alleged that the man accused of raping the deceased’s minor daughter last year was behind the attack.

“A man aged about 45 years was shot dead in Firozabad city at about 8pm by two bike-borne assailants,” Firozabad senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sachindra Patel said.

A member of the victim’s family, however, said the deceased had been receiving death threats for pursuing the rape case against Achhman Upadhaya, alias Chotu (25), accused of raping the minor daughter of the deceased. Patel confirmed that Upadhaya was named as an accused in the rape case. “The family has not yet filed an FIR or named any suspect in the murder case,” the SSP said, adding that teams have been constituted to nab the killer.

Patel said Upadhaya has been absconding since the alleged rape in August 2019. “His property was attached and a reward was declared for his arrest,” he added.

MAN ARRESTED FOR STALKING, RAPING TEEN

A 25-year-old man was arrested on Monday in Maharashtra’s Pune for allegedly stalking and raping a 15-year-old girl and threatening her with acid attack if she disclosed the incident, a police officer said.

The alleged incident took place in Wagholi area between June and September last year.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Ravindra Rasal told news agency PTI that the accused used to stalk and harass the girl, who is a student of a school in the city.
