CONVICT WAS ANGRY WITH THE PRINCIPAL AS SHE WOULD ADMONISH HIM IN FRONT OF OTHER STUDENTS OVER HIS POOR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AND LOW ATTENDANCE, POLICE OFFICIALS SAID

nKARNAL: A court in Haryana on Thursday sentenced a 20-yearold man to life imprisonment two years after he shot dead his school principal at her office in Yamunanagar.

The student was a Class 12 student when he murdered the 46-year-old woman.

Yamunanagar’s additional sessions judge, Neha Nohria, held the man guilty of murder and slapped a ~10,000 fine on him as well. The court acquitted the man’s father whose licensed revolver was used for the murder.

The convict, a commerce student, shot the principal four times during a parent-teacher meeting. After shooting the school principal, the commerce student tried to flee. However, a couple of parents, who were present for the parents-teachers meet in the school premises, caught hold of him with the help of locals, the police had then said. She was declared brought dead at a hospital.

The convict was angry with the principal as she would admonish him in front of other students over his poor academic performance and low attendance, police said.

Police said the convict was absent from school for four days prior to the day he committed the crime.

The deceased’s husband said he was expecting death penalty. “We were demanding death penalty, but even life imprisonment is justice delivered. We will challenge the acquittal of the father as he is equally responsible for letting his son use the weapon,” he said.

The convict’s father said his son was only 18 at the time of the incident and should be given a chance.

“My son has entire life ahead as he is only 20 now. He deserves a chance,” he said. “We will challenge the judgment in a higher court.”
