J&K: LET hideout busted in Budgam

nSRINAGAR: A day after busting a module in north Kashmir’s Baramulla town, police claimed to have busted another module of Lashkar e Toiba in Budgam district and arrested five persons. Elsewhere, unidentifi­ed gunmen shot dead a policeman in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Acting on specific informatio­n, a joint operation of police, 53 Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF was launched at Arizal village leading to the arrest of a terrorist associate who was later identified as Zahoor Wani. On his informatio­n, an undergroun­d hideout was also busted inside the forest.

“Incriminat­ing material, including arms and ammunition, was recovered from the hideout,” a police spokespers­on said.

During the course of investigat­ion, four more terrorist associates, identified as Younis Mir, Aslam Sheikh, Parvaiz Sheikh and Rehman Lone, all residents of Khansahib, were arrested.

“As per police records, they were involved in providing logistic support and shelter to the active terrorists of LET operating in the area. A case has been registered,” the spokespers­on said.

Meanwhile, a police man was shot dead by unknown gunmen in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday evening. The forces launched a search operation. Police said that at 5.20pm, militants fired indiscrimi­nately upon a joint party of police and CRPF deployed at main chowk in Yaripora area of Kulgam district.

“Head constable Mohammad Amin Bagat sustained grievous gunshot injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries,” the spokespers­on said.

Two operations have been launched in Pulwama since Friday and a huge quantity of arms and ammunition recovered at Chakura.”this is a big success in thwarting the designs of terrorists against security forces and averted a major terrorist related incident planned in Pulwama district,” the spokespers­on said.
