- Shruti Tomar shruti.tomar@hindustantimes.com

nBHOPAL: A 19-year-old woman was found hanging at her home in Indore on Monday, her family said on Tuesday, and added two stalkers harassing her allegedly pushed her to suicide hours before her class 12 exam results were declared in which she scored 74% marks. The incident did not come to light immediately as her parents first thought it may have had something to do with her fear of failure in the exams.

Police said the woman’s brother later found two men had been stalking and harassing her for long and one of them had threatened to kill her family if she refused his marriage proposal. The family said police later accepted a complaint from the brother but did not lodge a FIR immediately.

“The girl’s father...who is a labourer said he felt initially that she had committed suicide out of fear of her possible failure in the exam; the result of which was announced on Monday afternoon. They checked her result and found she passed with 74% marks,” said police inspector Yogesh Tomar.

“Police registered an FIR on the complaint of the girl’s brother...on Tuesday and are investigating the matter. No arrest has been made so far.”

Tomar said their neighbours and the woman’s friends later told the family about the two stalkers. “One of the stalkers was exerting pressure on the girl to accept his marriage offer. They threatened her that they would kill her family if she refused to accept the proposal. But the family was not aware of it.”
