2 Punjab gangsters shot dead in Bengal
Two gangsters from Punjab, who were wanted for multiple crimes, were killed in an encounter with the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police in the eastern outskirts of Kolkata on Wednesday, police said.
The gangsters, identified as Jaipal Singh Bhullar and Jaspreet Singh, were carrying rewards of ₹10 lakh and ₹5 lakh, respectively, on their heads.
One STF officer was also injured in the shoot-out that took place in an apartment block, the police said.
“The two were being hunted for the killings of two policemen on May 15. We went to the apartment to arrest them but had to open fire in self defence when they fired on us, injuring an inspector,” Vineet Goyal, additional director general of police, West Bengal STF, said.
Bhullar, alias Manjit Singh, was the son of a retired assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Punjab Police. He was wanted in several

Bhullar and his associate were living in a second floor apartment at Sukhabrishti, a complex built by the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, police said. Police said the STF got information about the gangsters from two men who were arrested near Birbhum district on Sunday while they were trying to smuggle in explosives and pistols from Bihar.
