Teams formed to nab Noida rape suspect who ran over guard

NOIDA: The Gautam Budh Nagar police have deployed teams in and around the district to nab the rape suspect who allegedly ran over a security guard of a high-rise society in Sector 120 on Tuesday evening to evade arrest. The suspect has been on the run since the incident, said officials.“several police teams have been formed to nab the suspect and bordering areas of the district have been alerted as well. The suspect’s mobile phone’s last location was traced to his residence on Tuesday after which it is untraceabl­e. However, other means of surveillan­ce are being used to track him,” said Harish Chander, DCP, Noida.

The suspect is a resident of a Sector 120 society in Noida. Sharad Kant, SHO of Sector 113 police station, said he worked as a general manager at a private firm in Noida and was booked for rape one-and-a-half months ago after a colleague lodged a complaint against him.

“He had been on the run since. On Tuesday, we received a tip-off that he was back home. When police reached the spot to nab him, he fled in his car. While exiting the society, he was signalled to stop by a security guard, but he hit him and sped off,” said Kant.

The security guard Ashok Mavi suffered grievous injuries on his shoulder and head. He is currently recovering at a private hospital. Another case has been registered against the suspect under sections 279 (rash driving), 338 (causing grievous hurt), and other sections of the IPC.
