EX-ANDAMAN CHIEF SECY HELD FOR GANG RAPE AFTER BAIL DENIED

PORT BLAIR: Police on Thursday arrested former Andaman and Nicobar chief secretary Jitendra Narain in a gang rape case filed by a 21-year-old woman against him and others, after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by a local court.

Soon after the verdict of the district and sessions judge here, a police team reached the resort where Narain is staying and took him to the Police Lines.

“I will speak to you, you know, about the false... conspiracy and everything,” Narain told reporters while coming out from the hospital where a medical examination was conducted.

The 21-year-old woman has alleged that she was lured to Narain’s home on April 14 and May 1 under the pretext of a government job and then raped by top officials, including Narain, there.
