GZB TO ORDER 208 CNG BUSES TO CUT EMISSIONS

- HTC

GHAZIABAD: The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has floated tenders to hire 208 contract buses in Ghaziabad that will run on CNG or be BS-VI compliant. Officials of the transport body said the move will help reduce vehicular emissions.

The agency operates 889 buses from ISBT Kashmere Gate and Anand Vihar in Delhi, ISBT Kaushambi, Loni and the Old Bus Stand in Ghaziabad. The existing fleet comprises 141 CNG buses, and only eight are BS-VI compliant, sources said.

The Delhi government has, previously, pinned pollution from UP state buses at the Kaushambi Bus Stand in Ghaziabad as a major reason the air quality index (AQI) at neighbouring Anand Vihar is among the worst in the city, consistently worse than Delhi’s average.
