RECORD SEIZURES MADE IN ELECTIONS IN GUJ, HIMACHAL, SAYS POLL PANEL
NEW DELHI: The Election Commission (EC) has made “record seizures” of cash, liquor and freebies ahead of elections in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, the poll body said in a statement on Friday.
While the seizures in Gujarat amounted to ₹71.88 crores, in Himachal Pradesh, they amounted to ₹50.28 crores, it said.
In its statement, the EC said Gujarat witnessed seizures of ₹71.88 crore in just a few days after the announcement of the election, which surpassed the seizures made during the entire duration of the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct during the 2017 assembly polls, which amounted to ₹27.21 crore.
“...the seizures in Himachal Pradesh are also significant amounting to ₹50.28 crores as compared to ₹9.03 crores, marking more than five-fold increase,” it said.
